Read:

• Marshall McLuhan (Chapter 1 from Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, 1964) (page 1 to 11)

In 1-2 paragraphs answer these questions: What do you think "The Medium is the Message" means? Do you agree or disagree with it? Why? Make at least one specific references to the text.

Make a webpage with your response (you will learn how to do that in your section). Link to it from your homepage.

Basic Homepage

Make a basic HTML homepage specifically for 7D with your name and a picture of yourself. Your homepage will be used to link to your reading assignments and the documentation of your projects.

To save the page to our server using an SFTP client:

• Log into our account "art7d" on our web server/host "foundation.arts.ucsb.edu". The TAs will give you the password in class.
• Create a folder called 'yourlastname_yourfirstname' all lower case inside the folder 'Sites/w20/yourTAslastname/'.
• Save the page as 'home.html' to the folder you just created.
• The url will be http://foundation.arts.ucsb.edu/~art7d/w20/yourTAslastname/ yourlastname_yourfirstname/home.html
